What are the Priorities in Policing?

There seems to be something fundamentally off with the philosophy of policing inculcated in police officers recently. It seems that when they are at a suspected crime scene, the overriding consideration in their mind is for their authority to be respected. I would think that making sure that people aren't dying should be their number one priority.

In this video, you will see 12-year-old Tamir Rice shot dead by police in Cleveland, OH. When his teenage sister tries to run to his side, the police, instead of tending to the boy they just shot, tackle and arrest his sister.

According to Think Progress some South Carolina legislators have proposed a bill that would make public schools “provide instruction in the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution for at least three consecutive weeks during one grading period in each academic year.” Oh, and the curriculum needs to be approved by the NRA.
